Connecting with our environments
At SMC in addition to building a childs social communication we also want the child to connect and engage their environments. We want them to have body and mind awareness. We communicate with bodies and how we manage our bodies when we are sharing space is important component of social communication.
Our team of Occupational therapists work on visual perceptual skills which is a child making sense of the world around them. Visual perception is what lets us understand space, position and orientation. Visual perception plays an important role in sharing space successfully with others.
In addition our occupational therapist work with hand-eye coordination (visual motor perception) so they can utilize and interact with tools and objects in their environment for tasks such as handwriting, cutting with scissors and self-care tasks such as dressing one self.
