SMC BRICK CLUB

We are learning together!

In this brick club session, our younger brick builders are ambitious, wanting to build elaborate models. One way we support the teams ambitions is to presort most of the needed parts for the complicated build so they do not get overwhelmed with so many pieces. This also helps keep the momentum going. Before getting started with the more complicated builds we start with simple and fun models like pencil and an eraser, then the small helicopter. Starting with smaller models serves as a warm-up and builds confidence for the more complicated models. Another strategy we use to warm up is sorting the pieces for bigger builds before we start building our project. The pre-building activities allow everyone to get settled and focus on our build.

OUR BRICK CLUB SESSIONS MODEL:

☑️collaboration

☑️turn-taking by changing roles of engineer, builder, and supplier

☑️asking for help

☑️sorting

☑️categorizing

☑️matching

☑️attention to the task

☑️task endurance

☑️connecting with others

☑️celebrating accomplishment

Our ambitious build was a Minnie Mouse ice cream shop. We ran into a challenge with some missing pieces. We brainstormed how we could problem solve having missing parts. I asked them if we should look through other sets to see if the parts got mixed up. Together we searched for missing parts. We did not find our pieces, so they will need to be ordered. AA
