SOCIAL MIND CENTER NEWS

The Parent Connection Newsletter - July 6, 2020

Welcome to our bi-weekly news update on happenings in the Social Mind Center.

  1. Social Groups have started at the Center.

    • Most of our parents would like to continue online.

    • We do have several group members attending at the center.

    • VERY IMPORTANT! If you would like to join group at the center please contact me as we want to keep social distancing and need reduced numbers at the center.

2. Our Monday Zoom meeting will transition and be replaced with our podcast “the different skill notebook”. Starting Monday, July 13th.

The "different skill notebook" tool focuses on skills and strategies to build social competency. This tool was designed by our team for parents and families. Social competency refers to social, emotional, cognitive and behaviors that children need for social adaptation across environments. The following are examples of social emotional skills:

  • adaptability

  • social communication

  •  perspective taking

  • social interpretation

  • problem solving

  • decision making

  • establishing and maintaining positive relationships

The starting point is developing a skill map to identifies skills that your child needs to be successful socially, emotionally, and academically:

skill: identify the skill gaps

strategy: identify that strategy(s) to teach the skill

build: where the strategy(s) will be applied to skill build

In addition to our podcast and different skill notebook articles in our parent connection blog we will have services. Executive function skills coaching will be available throughout the year. We will provide in home services after we conquer this Covid situation. We will stay in touch with you to update you on programming at the center.
